A Validation Study of Successful Aging Scale for Baby Boomers: An Application of Rasch Modeling
Lee Kyeong-Won

Abstract
The Baby boomers is entering the elderly. Measurement tools are needed to objectively evaluate the successful aging of baby boomers. The purpose of this study is to verify the validity of the successful aging scale for baby boomers through Rasch model of Item Response Theory (IRT). The subjects were 601 baby boomers surveyed in the 4th supplementary survey of the Korean Retirement and Income Study (KReIS). As a result of the analysis, it was found that 3 items were misfit, and 1 item was overfit. The person-item maps showed that the items could not cover a wide range of the person ability. 4-point Likert scale was appropriate for the successful aging scale. And there are items that functioned differently by gender and employment. This study suggests scholastic evidence for accurately measuring the successful aging of baby boomers in Korea in future studies.
